Doug wrote this on the board last week, but I thought I would post it again in case you forgot:
1. Do Triple Smart page 129
2. Make a pinwheel (bring it to class to show everyone!)
3. Review pages 126-129 with your Mom or Dad -- they are a little tough to understand
See you Saturday!

I had a lot of fun by Kyle.
On May 3rd, I did rice planting.
First we went in the mud to see how it feels like.
When I went in for the first time I felt yuck! But after we had a mud fight it became so fun standing in the mud.
After the machine finished it was work time.
First we broke into teams and I was on the seedling planting team.
While we were planting we were finding frogs.
We found a golf ball too.
When we went to the next place we found 5 frogs.
When we finished the 2nd place we had some lunch.
The lunch team made a good job.
After we had some lunch we played kick the can .
It was so fun.
When we were finished we went to the log house.
When papa said our friends can come to the log house to I thought yeah!
We had fun at the log house too.
I want to go again.

Fun on the May 3rd -- By Nozomi
Ren's Rice Planting Day
Tractor Driver By Phil
It was great to see how the life of a rice plant begins! I really enjoyed driving the tractor and seeing how the automated process of planting rice works. Having the mud squeeze between my toes was fun, too. The lunch was great and Hide's family was so welcoming. It was a great experience for us all. I am looking forward to helping with the harvest.
Rice Planting Day! By Maya
Hi, it's Maya! Did you like rice planting? I did! I made the mud smooth after the tractor turned around and that was fun. Angus and I did that job together.
Lunch was good, and it was fun to sleep in the tent at the log house. The next day, I went to the waterfall. When I was walking in the river, I only wore my panties. When I was going to the other side, then I fell down and I froze!!
I saw Nick going into the waterfall. He got all wet.
I want to go camping with my friends again!
Fun in the mud! -- By Sophie
When we were in front of the rice paddies, I didn't want to go in but I lost my balance, & fell in. Mud splashed all over my pants. When I walked around in the mud, it felt like slime running through my toes, and it felt reallyx100 gross. But when I started planting, I forgot about the mud and started planting, it was actually getting fun, and I forgot about how bad the mud felt and went on planting.

After some hard work, I was very hungry and ate a lot of lunch.
After lunch, we went rice planting again, but I was busy making mud pies and catching frogs. I got bored, and went back to the house where I started playing DS. After the fun, it was time to go back to the log house. I had a very good sleep (but the boys were toooooooooooooooo noisy!). I'd like to plant rice again sometime.
After some hard work, I was very hungry and ate a lot of lunch.

Rice Planting - by Jojo
Going on an Adventure by Richie
I smelled the breeze of the rice paddy when I was in my car. It was the best trip I ever had. I and the others planted rice for about three minutes. Later, Doug found a dead snake. I noticed because Masa screamed out loud "Snake!" The snake's blood vessel was sticking out of its head. Then we went to another rice paddy, and this time we planted rice for about 10 minutes. After we were done planting the rice, in my mind I imagined Hide's family harvesting the rice. After that,we ate some rice balls and interesting fried chicken at Hide's family's house. Their house is very old.
I saw a pretty dog named Hana but it bit my friend Ren. We played for about 20 minutes until everyone dashed to the house. It was shaved ice time. Most of the kids had the blueberry flavor. After that, we went to the log house. It seemed very hot. The log house was more enormous then I remembered. Later, some of us set up the tents. I wished I had brought some art supplies so I could make things. Our dinner was curry. It was sweet, but delicious. I want to go on a trip like this again. I won't forget it.
My rice planting trip-by ANGUS
On May 3rd Saturday I went rice planting.
We met lots of new friends.
We worked on 4 rice paddies.
But I worked on only 1 rice paddy.
I helped Hide-san, Nick, Phil and Papa move the seedlings.
They were very heavy and I could only carry 2 at a time.
We moved them with a special thing to carry them.
I was lucky that i picked that job because it was easier than planting rice, and it was pretty fun to do.
This was my first rice planting trip.
I want to go again!

What a great experience!! By Christie
I was really excited to see what it would be like to plant rice. Stepping into the rice paddy was much SLIMIER than I expected! I was also surprised by how warm the mud was. I enjoyed planting the seedlings, but I was worried that I was planting too few or too many in each bunch. It was fun to work together with everyone to do something that will produce food for Hide's family.
I also enjoyed meeting all of Hide's family and helping his mother make lunch. She is so organized, and she's a really good boss. She wasn't shy about telling me what needed to be done in the kitchen, and she was a good cooking teacher, too. I enjoyed hearing about their old house. She said, "That part over there is the old part -- it's 200 years old! This bit over here is new. It's only 100 years old." I loved the big, twisty beams in the ceiling of the house.
I'm really looking forward to going back to the rice paddies soon to see how the seedlings are doing.
Library Table
Ok, so I have talked to some parents about this but I want to remind everyone of our NEW PLAN!! On May 31, I'm asking each family to bring 5 or 6 books from their own bookshelves to put on a Library Table at kids' group (kids from 1-kid families can bring 2-4 books). Be sure to note your name inside the book so we don't get them mixed up. Each child can choose 1 (or 2 if there are enough) books to borrow for 1 (or maybe 2???) week(s). We'll keep a list of who has borrowed what book from whom. This way we can share our resources without having to make a special trip to the library. If possible, please bring books at a variety of levels so that there are good choices for all of the readers in our group.
See you on the 31st!

Rice Planting Blog Posts
Hi everybody! You will notice that I have taken pictures of the rice planting off the blog -- I decided that you guys should choose the pictures you like to post with your own sentences. I will send some photos to your Mom or Dad's e-mail so you can choose the ones you like.
SO here is what I want you to do... sit down at the computer with your Mom or Dad and ask them to sign in to Blogger (they will know how to do that). Then you should click on "new post" at the top of our blog's page. There will be a space for you to type your title. Your title can be anything you want, but make sure you include your name. Then type the sentences that you wrote in class about our rice planting experience. If you want to type more sentences, go for it!! Finally, you can attach one or two of the pictures that I am going to send to your Mom and Dad. Ask for their help if you don't know how to do that. (Moms and Dads, I will include instructions with the pictures...)
Once everyone posts their pictures and sentences, we'll have a wonderful "memory page" of our rice planting experience!
I'm looking forward to reading everyone's posts...
NOTE**** MOMS AND DADS **** I'd like to see YOUR posts and sentences, too!!!
